Feb Small Press of the Month: Featherproof Books
Featherproof is awesome. There we go. I couldn't really think of how else to start this post, so let's just get that out there right away.
They came to our attention a while back via their free mini-books which are taking the idea of publishing stories online and putting a great spin on it. Basically, you can download stories in PDfFformat and they are beautifully designed and ready to be folded and stapled and then carried with you in your pocket to read at your convenience. There have been some great stories thus far, by the likes of Kevin Sampsell and Elizabeth Crane and a handful of others, including a couple by Jonathan Messinger.
In addition to the mini-books, they've published a couple "regular" books, and the one we've read is Jonathan Messinger's Hiding Out. I saw him read in Chicago with Roy Kesey a few months ago and the story he read, as well as most every story in the collection, is that mix of humor and great writing that we most love in stories.
So, as we've been doing, buy a featherproof book this month and let us know and we'll send you a free Hobart back issue!
