Ever since I first saw Lizzie Skurnick read from her winning poetry chapbook, Check-In, at Pittsburgh’s awesome Quiet Storm Coffee House, I’ve been a huge fan of the journal CakeTrain (and Lizzie Skurnick’s intelligently incisive observations at her blog The Old Hag).
A Pittsburgh-based literary journal, CakeTrain was founded in 2003 by Donna Karen Weaver, Amanda Raczkowski, and Joseph Reed. Raczkowski and Reed currently edit the journal.
Here’s their credo:
“We believe that literary fiction, nonfiction and poetry are, as ever, the cornerstones of new and inventive human observation and the ever-expanding frontiers of linguistic expression.”
