Creamy Bullets, Kevin Sampsell

Imagedbcgi

About a week ago I picked up Kevin Sampsell's new collection of stories Creamy Bullets (chiasmus press) at the bookstore and have been reading it ever since. (I'm a slow reader and it's thick: 254 pages.) It's broken into three sections, based on story length: small, medium, large. It's a great mix, with stories originally published in such diverse places as elimae, LIT, Quick Fiction, Juked, 3rd Bed, and Yeti. There's a lot of sexy, edgy stuff, but mixed in with less heavy, more humorous stories about camp and family and sons. One of the stories I've been reading over and over is from the "medium" section and was originally published on 5_trope. It's called Monogamy. Do yourself a favor and read it right now. And when you're done, go out and get this collection (or order it from Powell's). You're probably a fan of Kevin's anyway. You probably couldn't put down A Common Pornography a few years back when you picked it up in some little, indie bookstore or saw it at a friend's house. It's the same way with Creamy Bullets. Turn randomly to any page. You can't go wrong.
