Andrew's Book Club

Just heard about this, which is a cool idea which we obviously endorse. Highly. Even if you don't buy the books (though you should, of course), or if you already own them, everyone should comment and tell friends and just generally spread the word. Cool ideas like this should be encouraged and talked about, no?

The basic idea is that every month Andrew will choose two story collections to highlight, one from a major press and one from an indie. This month, the first, January, he's chosen the (upcoming?) collection by Lauren Groff, Delicate Edible Birds. I actually wasn't even aware this was coming out but I'm super excited about it! Lauren had a great story in Hobart 6 and the couple other stories I've read from her, in Ploughshares and The Atlantic Monthly, were also really great. So, everyone should buy Lauren's book! Also, everyone should check out that pretty cool cover and how it is totally different but in a similar style to her novel, The Monsters of Templeton.

The second book Andrew chose is Allison Amend's Things That Pass For Love. It was released by OV Books, a kind of imprint of Dzanc Books. I have this book and haven't dug in yet but plan too.

So, the first two books were by a Hobart contributor and from Hobart neighbor, Dzanc. Next month should be Mary Miller's BIG WORLD, no?
