I asked Shane Jones three questions.
Claudia Smith: What is your favorite month?
Shane Jones: September. It's still kind of warm, but things are starting
to change, nights cooler, leaves turning color. It's a very nice month.
I also like June a lot for some reason. The worst month is February.
It's such a terrible and mean month. And March, which is like
February's dirty little brother.
Claudia Smith: Did you like fairy tales, when you were a boy? Or comic books? If so, which were your favorites?
Shane Jones: No comic books. Some fairy tales. I remember being completely
lost in WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE which is such a fun and insane kids
book. I think I want to re-explore that book. I tend to like things
that are kind of childish and playful and bring that into my own
writing. I'm not scared anymore to do that. I like fairy tales.
Claudia Smith: Have you lived in snowy places? If so, where and when?
Shane Jones: I've lived all my life in the northeast, which yeah, is
snowy. This winter there has been a lot of snow. The sky is constantly
gray. It's cold. I have a love/hate relationship with the winter. I
can't see myself living somewhere warm all year long. Maybe. The snowy
months give me this kind of time to just hide away, sleep like 10 hours
a night, and read books. It's kind of necessary I think.
