The other week my favorite books blog, the one on Esquire, closed down. But Anya is still keeping on keeping on, now over here. Check it out. (In her last week on Esquire, Anya did Hobart the favor of tagging Big World, the Mary Miller book you can get here.)
For some reason -- maybe because I like pictures of New York City subway cars -- I like the new Anya blog more, although I can't say why, exactly. Something about it *is* better, though.
Like many of you I'm sure, I'm making the trek to AWP next week. I'm excited; never been. Every year I get an e-mail from Elizabeth telling me what a great party it was, so I couldn't let one more year go by without checking it out. I don't know how big this thing is, but it looks huge. My eyes started swimming when I read the "off-site" events page. Anyway, if you are going, and you don't have plans for Wednesday night, Todd Zuniga and Claire Zulkey are hosting a Chicago-style Literary Death Match at 6:30 (doors at 6:00) at the Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia Ave. The cover is $5 (another $5 scores you the Opium Print of your choice--a $10 cover price). Aaron will be reading, along with Holly Wilson (Southeast Review), Julius Kalamarz, and others.
I've been contemplating some sort of live blogging from AWP, which will probably be in the form of occasional updates, drunkenly keyed into my blackberry, about new magazines I've discovered or the cool panel I just saw. If I can get my act together and also find a few spare minutes, you'll read it here.
